Caution: Side Effects from Improper Care
Squeezing the anal sacs too hard or cleaning them too frequently can worsen inflammation or cause skin damage. Cats, in particular, may suddenly extend their claws or bite if they feel pain. Perform any care gently and, whenever possible, under the guidance of a veterinarian. If you notice pus or blood coming from the anal sacs, seek veterinary care immediately, as this could indicate an infection or tumor that may lead to serious complications if left untreated. Be cautious, as excessive handling can actually be harmful.
